We are located at 7051 North Highway 1 in Little River, California, just south of Mendocino Village. Our About page shares more about the inn and its history.

What makes Inn at Schoolhouse Creek unique?

Our historic Mendocino Coast property includes 17 individually styled rooms and cottages spread across more than 15 buildings. Is Inn at Schoolhouse Creek a historic property?

Yes. Our original farmhouse dates to 1862, a second home was added in 1888, and the inn opened in 1933 after completion of the Shoreline Highway. Read more about our Mendocino Coast history.

How close is the inn to Mendocino Village?

We are in Little River, a short drive south of Mendocino Village, with convenient access to beaches, redwood parks, coastal trails, restaurants, galleries, and shops.

Is the inn on the beach?

We are located along Highway 1 rather than directly on the beach. Van Damme State Park and other nearby coastal access points make it easy to explore beaches, coves, and trails by car.

Rooms, cottages, and amenities

What types of accommodations are available?

We offer traditional guest rooms, suites, stand-alone cottages, and larger two-bedroom accommodations. Layouts, views, fireplaces, kitchens, decks, and occupancy vary. Explore our accommodations to find the best fit.

Do all rooms have ocean views?

No. Some accommodations have ocean views, while others overlook our gardens or grounds. The view for each option is identified on our accommodations page.

Do the accommodations have kitchens?

Select cottages and larger accommodations include kitchen facilities. Features vary by unit, so please review the specific room or cottage description if a full kitchen, kitchenette, refrigerator, or microwave is important to your stay.

Which accommodations have private hot tubs?

Pomo Cottage and Water Tower Cottage offer private hot tubs. Visit our accommodations page for current availability and details.

Is there a shared spa, hot tub, or sauna?

Our community spa, hot tub, and sauna are currently closed for renovation. Pomo Cottage and Water Tower Cottage continue to offer private hot tubs for guests staying in those accommodations.

Do the units have fireplaces?

Yes. Our units include thermostat controlled fireplaces, which also serve as an important heat source. Please follow the operating and safety instructions provided.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes. We provide complimentary Wi-Fi. Cellular reception can be limited on the rural Mendocino Coast, so Wi-Fi calling may be helpful. More on-property information is available in our digital compendium.

Is breakfast included?

We do not currently serve breakfast. Coffee and tea essentials are provided, and select accommodations include kitchen facilities for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals.

Is the inn suitable for families or groups?

Yes. We offer suites, cottages, and two-bedroom accommodations that can host families or small groups. Maximum occupancy varies by unit, so please compare our accommodation options before booking.

Are there accessible accommodations?

Our historic property includes slopes and older buildings, so accessibility varies. We offer accessible parking and access to the main entrance and registration area. Please review our accessibility information and contact us before booking so we can help identify the most suitable option.

Pets

Is Inn at Schoolhouse Creek pet-friendly?

Yes. All of our accommodations welcome dogs and cats, with a maximum of two pets per room unless another arrangement is approved in advance. Please review our pet policy before arrival.

What is the pet fee?

Our pet fee is $30 per pet, per night, capped at $120 per stay, plus applicable tax.

What is included with the pet package?

We provide a pet bed, food and water bowls, a towel, waste bags, and a treat, subject to availability.

Can pets be left alone in the room?

No. Pets may not be left unattended, even in a crate. We ask owners to keep pets under control, clean up after them, and prevent disturbances.

Is there a nearby dog-friendly beach?

Van Damme Beach is approximately one half mile from our location. Beach and park rules can change, so please review our pet policyand current California State Parks guidance before visiting.

Arrival, stay, and policies

What time are check-in and check-out?

Check-in begins after 4:00 p.m., and check-out is by 11:00 a.m. Please bring a valid photo ID and the credit card used for the reservation.

Does the inn offer housekeeping during a stay?

Stayover housekeeping is available by request rather than automatically. Please contact us if you need fresh linens, towels, or other assistance. Additional guest information is in our digital compendium.

Is smoking allowed?

No. Guest rooms, cottages, decks, and grounds are non-smoking. A restoration fee of at least $275 may apply if smoking occurs in a prohibited area.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation and deposit terms depend on the rate selected. Please review the terms shown before payment, in your confirmation email, and on our policies page. Promotional and nonrefundable rates cannot be refunded.

Are there special terms for group reservations?

Reservations of three or more rooms are treated as a group. Group reservations require 30 days’ notice for cancellation and full payment 14 days before arrival. See our policies page for details.

Does the inn accept cash?

We are a cashless property and accept major credit cards.

Can gift certificates be used?

Yes. Gift certificates may be applied to room charges, subject to the certificate terms, and cannot be redeemed for cash.
